Sleeve notes for the CD A chat about us

PRESENTATION

This album is the fruit of a dream sown many moons ago. They are songs inspired by the stories of my parents, the cantorias, the grass-cutting rituals, the merrymaking. Stories which recapture the saga of one family which, like many others, planted and reaped year after year on land that did not belong to them. But, lest the last drop of hope should fall along with the sweat, there remained the pau-de-arara (the migrant's lorry) and the belief in bringing into being, in the north of the country, the dream of conquering our own piece of land. And it was with this bumpkin way of reaping and with the poetic commitment to resist that I gathered everything together in UMA PROSA SOBRE NÓS/ A CHAT ABOUT US. Which, in reality, is a tale about many others.

This album is dedicated to my parents,
Durval and Julieta, with all the affection in the world

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
First, to Matilde, Dandara and Moara
Three women who infuse my heart with each breath
To all my relatives for their support and their smile each time we meet
To my Landless family, from the National Board through to the settlements, without forgetting, of course, the people who work at regional, state and national level, for their help in channelling my poetry into commitment and hope.
... And I shall never be able to forget the fifteen hundred people who bought the album in advance. You were undoubtedly the cornerstone of this construction
A kiss on everbody's souls
Zé Pinto
