Five o'clock in the morning
the bantam cockerel crows
father gets up early
mother already rose.
And the duckling in the yard goes
quack quack, quack quack, quack quack,
cluck, cluck goes the hen
she is going to lay there and then.

Refrain
And I too am going to rise
brush my teeth, wash my face
take my school-bag, I'm going to study
so that one day I can teach others.

On the road to school
I learned to admire
the little bird's song
majestic sabiá(1)
My school was built
from the strength of teamwork
work breeds life from acting in union.

Amongst the boys and girls
Discrimination's dead
when at break time
They learn to share their bread.
To plant a garden in the school
Calling everyone's attention
as a sign of the victory
that on this land we've won.

1 Editor's note: Sabiá: a word of Tupi origin designating a bird much admired for the beauty of its song.

This song is from the CD Growing a ring o'roses
